Information Minister meets Editors’ Syndicate delegation over media sector affairs

Minister of Information, George Kordahi, on Monday met at his office in the Ministry with a delegation from the Editors’ Syndicate, headed by Syndicate Dean, Joseph Al-Qossaifi, with whom he discussed media sector affairs and concerns.

In his delivered word, Minister Kordahi said, “From the first day of taking office, I began to assess the current conditions of the Ministry of Information and its affiliated institutions,” pointing out that he is holding successive meetings with the heads of departments to have a better vision of the existing situation to mull the future plans that will be adopted.

Addressing the delegation, Kordahi said that he needed their expertise and assistance to develop the media situation in Lebanon and establish modern rules, whether legal or even ethical.

Kordahi also stressed that he will work to study and prepare a media code of honor, aimed at respecting the dignity and freedoms of others, in addition to studying other laws currently in the custody of parliamentary committees.

Kordahi also stressed that the basic principle of the media is freedom “which we sanctify.” However, he added that the freedom of every individual stops at the limits of the freedom of others. “This is a universal principle, so it is not permissible to violate the freedoms and sanctities of people and target them with rumors and sometimes insults.”
