Judge Oweidat: ” I stepped away.”

The Public Prosecution stated in a statement that “the Public Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation, Judge Ghassan Oweidat, did not take over the dispute over giving permission to quiz the Director-General of Public Security, Major General Abbas Ibrahim,” noting that “the aforementioned administrative issue relates to the case of Beirut port explosion, which the Public Prosecutor had previously renounced pursuing its public right lawsuit.”

The statement was preceded with a clarification by Judge Oweidat, in which he said that he “has stepped away,” and therefore he is not entitled to decide on any request related to the Beirut Port case, whether the request is administrative or judicial.
