Progressive Socialist Party Chief, Walid Jumblatt, cabled today Abdul Latif Rashid, congratulating him on his election as President of the Iraqi Republic.

Jumblatt hailed the election of the new Iraqi President at a critical stage full of challenges, saying in his cable: “We are confident that you will be able to work hard to confront the challenges on the path of Iraq’s unity and restoration of its stability, drawing firm parameters for true democracy and ensuring the right of the Iraqi people to a safe and dignified livng.”

He added: “As we look forward to further cooperation with you over common causes, we wish you a productive presidential term at all levels.”
