The Progressive Socialist Party Leader Walid Jumblatt wrote on his Twitter page saying: “We appreciate the visit of United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres to Lebanon in solidarity with the Lebanese people and Syrian refugees,” reminding him of UNRWA and Palestinian refugees.
He added: “Not all politicians bear equal responsibility like the Presidency.”
It is noteworthy that Guterres arrived yesterday in Beirut on a “solidarity” visit, and indicated that political officials “have no right” to be divided and paralyze the work of constitutional institutions, while citizens suffer the repercussions of an unprecedented economic crisis.
Guterres called on officials to “join efforts to solve the crisis.” He also called on the international community to “strengthen its support for Lebanon.”
In a speech delivered from the presidential palace during a joint press conference with President Michel Aoun, Guterres said: “Given the suffering of the Lebanese people, political leaders do not have the right to be divided and paralyze the country,” noting that the Lebanese expect from them economic revival and effective government.”
