Prime Minister Najib Mikati thanked the Iraqi government “for supporting Lebanon and standing by it in these difficult circumstances, especially through the implementation of the Iraqi oil import contract, to participate in solving the electricity crisis.”
President Mikati was briefed by the Minister of Energy and Water, Dr. Walid Fayyad, about the procedures for the arrival of the first Iraqi oil ship to the Deir Ammar electrical plant, which will help in increasing the hours of supplying the current.
President Mikati stressed that “the government will make all efforts to reduce the impact of electricity rationing and improve the nutrition situation, provided that the parallel step is to work on a radical solution to the electricity crisis by diversifying energy sources in order to give priority to natural gas and renewable energy, and to complete the implementation of the electricity sector plan and related reforms.” .
Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi confirmed, during a call with President Mikati, that “his country stands by Lebanon and is ready to support it by all means, which helps it overcome the difficult ordeal it is going through.”
