Minister of Health warns of failing to comply with COVID measures, mentions lockdown possibility

The Lebanese Minister of Health, Firas Abiad, warned after a meeting held on Wednesday that “the Ministry reported 3,150 new COVID-19 cases out of 26,000 PCR tests conducted.”

“The great majority of injuries occur in those under the age of 50,” he said, “and the unvaccinated rate of injuries has reached 65 percent.”

“The rate of mixing that we are witnessing has led to the spread of Omicron in Lebanon,” Abiad said at a press conference, adding that “The medical sector are calling for applying strict application of measures because hospitals are overwhelmed,” adding that the lockdown proposal was discussed at the meeting today, but no decision was made in this regard yet.
