Minister of Interior from Roumieh: The prison year will most likely be reduced

The Minister of Interior and Municipalities Bassam Mawlawi visited Roumieh Central Prison today to inspect the conditions of prisoners.

Following the visit Mawlawi addressed the prisoners, saying, “We are following up on your health and psychological needs, and I am working to address the issue of delaying trials with the Minister of Justice.”

He added, “We are studying the issue of general or partial amnesty, and meetings are underway under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister, who is working to secure favorable political conditions, and most likely the prison year will be reduced, and we are studying the possibility of reducing the execution penalty and life sentences.”

Mawlawi explained that his visit to Roumieh prison had nothing to do with the tapes that spread on social media. He addressed the prisoners by saying: “Get vaccinated please!”
