Grand Mufti of the Republic, Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian, on Thursday welcomed at his Dar Al-Fatwa residence “UNIFIL” Commander, Aroldo Lazaro, who paid him a protocol visit after assuming his duties in Lebanon.

The pair discussed the current situation in Lebanon and the region.

Derian later received MP Ashraf Rifi, who affirmed to the Grand Mufti his intention to work alongside official institutions, activate their role, and prevent their disruption.

“We’ve also affirmed to His Eminence our rejection against sectarianism and our intention to confront any attempt to isolate Lebanon with all the capabilities available to us,” Rifi said.

“Respect for the democratic parliamentary system in Lebanon begins with activating the role of constitutional institutions, as well as with accountability, legislation, and the formation of an effective Lebanese government,” Rifi added.

Moreover, he expressed utter rejection against the existence of illegal weapons. “We affirm that we stand by the official military and security institutions,” he added.

“We also affirmed to His Eminence that we are against proposing civil marriage in all its forms because it violates religion and the constitution,“ Rifi said.
