President Aoun discusses methods to address emerging situation with Gulf States

President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, followed-up on ongoing contacts to address the situation which resulted from the recent decision of Gulf states to withdraw their Ambassadors from Lebanon and ask Lebanese Ambassadors to leave.

The President also monitored western and international reactions and studied the methods to address the emerging situation, especially in light of the meetings which Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, held with several Arab and foreign leaders, in the Climate Conference of Glasgow.

In addition, the President was briefed on reports received from Lebanese diplomatic missions abroad, which dealt with the situation of the Lebanese in Gulf countries.

The President met Justice Minister, Judge Henry Khoury, today at the Presidential Palace, and deliberated with him general affairs and repercussions of recent measures taken by Gulf countries against Lebanon.

The Justice Minister indicated that contacts are ongoing to address the latest developments, stating that the situation is supposed to become clearer after PM Mikati returns from London, this evening.

President Aoun met former Ministers, Beshara Merhej and Nicolas Tueini.

Current political developments, economic affairs and the recent crisis with Gulf countries, were discussed in the meeting.

The President received President of the Episcopal Committee of “Justice & Peace”, Archbishop Shukrallah Nabil Al-Hajj, and Father Elie Nasr.

The meeting tackled social and humanitarian affairs.
