The Russian Foreign Ministry welcomed the holding of Lebanese parliamentary elections, reiterating its stance in support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of this country, and its commitment to developing friendly relations with it.
Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a statement, “We welcome the parliamentary elections in the Lebanese Republic, and consider them as an important local political event to ensure the stable and effective functioning of the institutions of state power in this country.”
“We expect the leading Lebanese social and political forces to continue their work to resolve difficult issues at the national level on the basis of constructive dialogue, mutual respect and a balance of legitimate interests,” she added, pointing out that “Foreign observers, including a Russian delegation, followed these elections, where there were no violations and serious accidents during the voting.”
Zakharova continued: “We reaffirm our firm stance in support of the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of the Lebanese Republic, as well as our firm commitment to continue developing traditional friendly relations and multifaceted cooperation with Lebanon.”
