“Sawa for Lebanon” announces its full solidarity with Beirut Port victims’ families

“Sawa for Lebanon” movement said in a statement that the families of the victims of the Beirut Port blast staged a sit-in today in front of the Palace of Justice in Beirut to raise their voices loudly and refuse the policies adopted to cordon off the judiciary and to remove the judicial investigators, in order to prevent the revealing of the truth and the identification of criminal responsibilities in the case.

“We will not accept prohibiting anyone from saying the truth, nor that the blood of our victims be in vain. It is time that criminals will be held accountable, in the state of unjust and unaccountability,” the statement said.

Sawa for Lebanon announced its total solidarity with the families of the victims. “Today is a pivotal day for the families who declared their disobedience in the face of this ruling political class that does not stop interfering in the judiciary and investigations,” the statement said.

We believe that it is necessary for every free citizen to participate in all the protest movements of the victims’ families, to reject political interference in the judiciary, and to denounce obstruction of investigations.

We have lost our children, families, and friends, so we will not accept their burial twice and we will not go back. We announce that we will continue to stand by the families of the victims and our participation through field actions, within the framework of an open and public confrontation chosen by the authority against our people, by threatening the investigation process.

Sawa for Lebanon considers that the Beirut port blast is a huge event engraved in the memories of the Lebanese, and this violation of justice is a blow to the collective memory of the citizens. Sawa believes that justice is the basis of any society, and Lebanon today is a country appropriated by a political system that has failed to guarantee justice.

To this political class, hear our voices. Justice will not be overlooked. The people will win.
