The President of the Republic, Michel Aoun, informed the United Nations Special Envoy to Syria during his meeting with him this morning at Baabda Palace, that “the international community must bear its responsibility in facilitating the repatriation of the displaced Syrians in Lebanon to their country, especially since most of the Syrian regions have become safe.”

Aoun presented Ambassador Pedersen the difficult economic and living conditions experienced by the Lebanese, pointing out that “the burden of the Syrian displacement has worsen these difficulties, in addition to the damage to the infrastructure in Lebanon.

Aoun applauded the Ambassador’s efforts “to accomplish progress toward a political solution to the Syrian conflict, including working on writing a new constitution in accord with the interested parties, for the sake of Syria, its people, and the nations of the region, including Lebanon.”
