Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian, the Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic, stated that “the victims of Tripoli incident are the victims of all of Lebanon.”
“The majority of the people, particularly those in Tripoli and the north, are suffering under the weight of hunger, poverty, unemployment, neglect, and deprivation, and the state and its institutions have no alternative to fill this deadly void,” said Mufti Derian.
“As a result, we urge Tripoli, the north, and Akkar population to remain calm and wait for a transparent investigation to be conducted by the army leadership and the competent judiciary to uncover the circumstances of the disaster, which cannot pass without accountability and punishment for all those who perpetrated this heinous crime, which resulted in the deaths of victims, men, women, and children, and we will follow up on this case file with the relevant authorities to clarify the reality of the situation and for each party to accept responsibility before God and the competent judiciary,” he warned.
Derian offered his sincere condolences to the families of the victims and their families, asking God that the victims rest in peace.
