The United Nations Special Coordinator in Lebanon Joanna Wronecka tweeted: “I thank Minister of Justice Henry Khoury for a fruitful discussion today on the role of the judiciary and the challenges it faces. The rapid investigation of the Beirut port explosion will be a benchmark for an independent and effective judiciary in Lebanon.”

She added: “I met Defense Minister Maurice Selim. We discussed the importance of maintaining Lebanon’s security and stability during this critical period, and the United Nations’ commitment to support the Lebanese army and its vital importance to Resolution 1701.

Wronecka continued: “Today, I discussed with Finance Minister Youssef Khalil the financial and economic crisis and its painful impact on the Lebanese people. Lebanon needs now quick steps to  stabilize the situation,  institute reforms with a strong social safety net, to pave the way for recovery.
