Bassil wonders when will Mikati apologize?

Forming a government is still experiencing several hurdles, and there are some parties who are obstructing the process by requesting some names and ministerial portfolios. However, the actual obstacle is neither in names nor portfolios, because the President of the Republic, Michel Aoun, and his ally, Hezbollah, do not want to form a government currently.

Hezbollah, which is affiliated with Iran, believes that the time has not yet come to release the government formation, because negotiations have not been yet completed in Vienna. Iran, which is struggling economically and politically, has not yet given the green light to Hassan Nasrallah to form a government that secures gains for it.

On the other hand, Hezbollah considers, according to well-informed sources, that creating a government that meets the desires of the head of the Free Patriotic Movement, Gebran Bassil, is no longer among its goals. Hezbollah now sees uncertain fluctuations in Bassil’s behavior, and there are more closer allies to the party rather than Bassil through strategic directions and headlines which the party believes in.

Sources told Sawt Beirut International (SBI) that Hezbollah sees in Hassan Diab’s government, which was formed by the party, a stage of salvation from Bassil’s requirements and presidential ambitions. It is able to put an end to the boundless requirements of the son-in-law, therefore, Hezbollah prefers to keep Diab’s government, until the next parliamentary elections, and then they will decide what to do, especially when entering the presidential election stage.

The President of the Republic and Bassil consider that FPM has a valuable share in Diab’s government, with reservations about some ministers that were appointed by FPM, but did not meet their requirements. However, the sources indicate, that “Bassil’s interest intersects with the party in terms of keeping on Diab’s resigned government, because he does not guarantee the Ministry of the Interior in the coming government. That’s way Bassil is raising the ceiling of demands to embarrass Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati, with the aim of removing him and forcing him to apologize.

The sources consider that Bassil has goals beyond the government formation, and he wants to skip the stage of the parliamentary elections, reaching the presidential elections. Therefore, the government that will manage the vacuum is Bassil’s major target, who is seeking Presidency despite his low chances, and Hezbollah’s unwillingness to promote him.

The sources point out that Basil’s current behavior in the formation process is clear. Bassil asks, by setting obstacles, “When will Mikati apologize?”
