Washington not interested in lifting sanctions on Bassil

The head of the Free Patriotic Movement, Representative Gibran Bassil, works day and night to lift the sanctions imposed on him, and he sought refuge in Qatar for this purpose.

Well-informed sources confirm that Qatar has no say in lifting the sanctions on Bassil, but he went there asking for help, as Qatar is a sister country to Lebanon that stands at the same distance from all political parties in Lebanon, and it extended a helping hand to Bassil.

The sources indicated to the “Sawt Beirut International” website, that Qatar provided the costs of the defense office in charge of the sanctions’ file imposed.

On the other hand, sources from the American capital, Washington, confirm that lifting the sanctions is not an easy thing, and what Bassil is doing takes time, and that the matter has nothing to do with the presidential elections, but rather that Bassil felt the bitterness of these sanctions and their impact on his movements and political future, for his movement was disrupted in all countries, and incurred heavy political losses.

The sources say, “What matters to Bassil is not the presidency, but gas and oil, and the margin of freedom in his movements with oil companies, and with the sanctions imposed on him, he cannot carry out any activity.”

The sources stress that the US administration is not concerned with Bassil’s moves, and there is a legal path, and the issue of Bassil’s dream of presidency does not concern it, and what matters is Lebanon’s stability and the election of a new president with specifications that the Lebanese people are satisfied with.
